Casual Friday Work Chic

Hello,

My usual go to attire for a casual Friday at work is a pair of dark rinse jeans, normally trouser-style, and a nice blouse or colorful blazer.  At the moment one of my favorite colors is orange.  Surprisingly, the color goes well with a ton of other colors.  Some of my favorite colors to pair it with are deep purple/plum, green, and hot pink/fuschia.  Orange also looks cute with leopard print.  I paired it with purple(shoes), green(handbag), and leopard(belt) in my outfit today. Although my shirt is long-sleeved, it is a sheer and airy, which makes it perfect for, both, summer heat and an air-conditioned office.  As far as the jeans are concerned, I think every girl should own a pair of trouser-style denim for a more professional and pulled together look.  I especially like this pair because they are high-waisted, which gives off a 70's boho vibe.  Also, a darker rinse presents a more professional look at the office, but one can still look laid back if you want to head to happy hour after work.  I have had these shoes forever and still love them as much as I did from day one.  The color, bow, and peep-toe make for a killer combo.  What are some of your outfit staples for a casual Friday at work?

Nautical Express

Hello,

Quick mid-week post and I must say you are seeing the best of the worst pics.  My photographer a.k.a daughter was not in the mood to snap pics and it shows (i.e. glares, bad focusing, etc.).  However, I knew it would be a minute before I could take new pics and didn't want go more than a few days without a new post.  Ok...on to the outfit.  I love stripe shirts.  They exude a classic nautical vibe and look great with jeans as well as a pencil skirt. Lately, I have been finding really cute ones at H&M.  I have had this sleeveless tee for quite some time and have kept it in the wardrobe because, for some reason, I have the hardest time finding "true" red shirts.  They are really one of the hardest items to locate.  I always find variations of the color such as cranberry or a mixture of orange and red but rarely a true red.  Last week, I saw a plain v-neck red tee in Forever 21 and you would've thought that I hit the lottery. Because this shirt that I am wearing is loose and flowy, i decided to keep the bottom half of my outfit lean and fitted to avoid loosing my body and lil' curves. Lol.  Had I worn loose, flowy pants, I would have worn something more fitted and/or structured on top.  Two of my favorite ways to wear stripe shirts are under an army green canvas jacket and with colorful blazers.  What are some of your favorite ways to wear stripes?

Peplums, Chains, and Thangz

Hello,

In my effort to beat the heat I have come to the realization that I cannot wear shorts everyday.  For one, I don't own enough and for two, it gets quite boring.  Therefore, I decided to again pull out my red jeans which will soon be in the Plato's Closet pile.  I like jeans with a little stretch to them but these babies are beginning to stretch too much and will soon have the saggy-look.  No bueno!!!  I think I will wear them through the summer and then let them go.  I purchased them from Forever 21, so I won't feel too bad for the loss.  As far as the shirt is concerned, it is "my opinion" that the peplum(ruffle attached at the waistline of a jacket, blouse, or dress) style can pretty much be worn by all body types as it is figure-flattering much like the iconic wrap dress.  In the past, I have worn peplums on a dress and skirt but this is my first time wearing a shirt.  While I like the shirt and it's Versace-ish print, a solid color would be my preference if I were to ever purchase another one in the future.  As stated in my previous post about rompers, if you are looking to try an affordable taste of the trend, stores such as Marshalls and TJ Maxx offer cute, unique peplum shirts in a variety of patterns and colors.  What do you guys think about peplums?

Florals To Go

Hello,

I must say, I am anxiously awaiting Fall.  Not only because I love Fall fashion, but most importantly, I am becoming quite exhausted while taking pictures in this HEAT!!!.  As you have probably noticed, I have been sticking to sleeveless, sheer shirts, in an effort to stay cool.  I love color and floral prints and this outfit pretty much encompasses both of those things.  I have already planned my next outfit with these pants.  I am going to wear them with a chambray shirt for a laid-back, casual vibe. I have had a new photographer for the past few posts...my daughter Bianca.  She and I are both still trying to learn how to get the most out of my camera.  We're getting there.  However,  i think she is doing a pretty fine job for a 7 year old. Lol.  Enjoy your day and try to stay cool.

Turn It Up

Howdy,

My goal is to post at least twice weekly, which has been hampered due to my computer's power cord giving out.  Now that the problem is solved, I hope to be back on track next week. About the outfit..I found a way to incorporate a neon piece into my wardrobe.  I like the trend but you have to be careful and avoid neon-overload. Otherwise, you can easily look like an 80's wild child.  I purchased these shorts at the same time that I bought these shorts.  No matter what the pattern, black and white items are quite universal and can be paired with countless other patterns and colors.  I love this neon shirt for three reasons.  1. the color is adorable. 2. it is sleeveless, which will allow me to comfortably wear it under a blazer, my favorite item of clothing.  3. it is sheer and breathable, which is absolutely necessary in this Texas heat.  Lastly, my shoes are from Bakers.  They have a bow and other detailing made out of a zipper.  They are from an old collection and therefore no longer in stores.  By the way, although summer is less than a month in, magazines and stores are already forecasting Fall fashion.  I can't wait.  Fall is my favorite season.

I Heart Rompers

Hello,

At this moment the entire country is experiencing an exhausting heatwave and I don't know about everyone else, but the last thing I want to do is put on any clothing that will make me feel hotter and more uncomfortable.  To the rescue is an expensive romper I recently found at Marshalls.  It's lightweight, comfortable, and has a cute heart print that is playful yet mature enough for an adult.  Also the belt, which came with the romper, and gold detailing up the "chicness" factor of a very inexpensive item. The good thing about rompers is the convenience they provide when you want to be stylish but not have to worry about putting an outfit together.  You can dress it down with flat sandals or dress it up with heels and add a blazer and/or tights when it gets cool outside.  I seem to find the cutest ones at Marshalls.  As for my shoes, I love the gold studs that create a cap toe and how it goes perfectly with the belt and buttons on the romper.  I bought these a few years ago but this is only my second time wearing them.  I thought about getting rid of them several times but I'm glad I didn't because cap toe heels are a hot and must buy item at the moment.  This is one trend that I don't mind following.  If you want to try out a romper without spending big bucks, head over to your nearest Marshalls or TJ Maxx.  Until next time...
